You've put into words a thread I've been unraveling and pulling at over the past few months - thanks, Alex. I'm mostly a silent lurker on your stuff, but I value the way you share your thoughts and experience. It's almost like you're creating a space for both you, as the writer/one sharing, and I, the reader, to practice a form of what you're speaking to here in this essay (in an online format). If that makes sense. Interesting, lovely, and leaves me feeling more human and less concerned about arriving anywhere particular. Enlightenment is none of my business after all ;)
Rosalie, this is one of the more inspiring comments I've received. I'm happy to have you lurk, but want to thank you so so much for making my day dropping in here :)
Spot on reflection, woven with storytelling and wisdom. Life is about listening, learning passing it on, hopefully learning a good trail filled with love and kindness.
There’s so much good food for thought here that I’m mulling over. Should I we spend time online reading from people who have absorbed life’s lessons and found a way to make them coherent on the page? Should we spend time observing people in real life who naturally lead by example? Should we do both? Do we have time to do both? Great stuff.
The nice thing about the latter - observing people IRL - is that don't have to schedule time to do it; it can just be woven throughout your day (also instead of losing time scrolling)
Oh my gosh thank you so much for posting about this Alex! I'm in the group of people who run away from any framework, structured talk and whatnot. Learning from people with real experiences does more to me than any other! I feel like I'm like your partner Grace...I've always loved people and been really good with them (that's one thing I'm sort of confident about 😂)...and my husband's asked the same question too! I just don't know how to answer him lol.
And I've struggled all my life to "articulate" the "lessons" into a structure...and I just can't do it! A few weeks back though I realised what I can try to do...is just share stories. The right folks will take whatever is meant for them you know? Who are we to decide what and how others should learn? We can only create safe spaces to the best of our abilities and life our life with as much utter honesty as possible. Isn't it?
Anyways, I've almost written an essay here😂. But your post really sparked a lot in me! So thank you!
