This line “I already know what happens when I try to smother it. I end up running laps around the Tenderloin, crazy-eyed, ripping cigs like there’s no tomorrow.” reminds me of the St. Thomas Aquinas quote that Laura McKowen uses as an anchor in her writing. Just in case you haven’t seen it for a while!

“If you bring out what is within you, what you bring out will save you, if you don’t bring out what is within you, what you do bring out will destroy you.”

Loved this piece, thanks for sharing your process. 🌟

Love that quote, which essentially summarizes Jungian psychology in a single sentence. It’s especially apropos for me now. And you know, I’ve seen Laure McKowen’s work around a bunch but never dove in. Thank you, Emily

Feeling this one brother Alex. Addiction and recovery are the key that opens the door...we do not yet know what all will come through it, but it’s better. 🙏

I love this piece, however, I am appalled by your rejection of sweatpants that choke the ankles. Ankles were made to sweat.

I just want me some baggy ass sweat pants but they literally only make joggers these days unless you go to a steam punk or super spiritual store, which I guess is where I shop now lol

I happily harbor a firm and multi-decades-long hatred of all of Bob Dylan’s output, yet... I’m glad you’re channeling your Dylan and finding fresh things to absorb you. Even the most fulfilling of creative passions can stagnant, plus whatever you do you’ll sound better than him 😊
